We are just 13 days away from the first Major Championship on the LPGA Tour this year, and it will take place at Memorial Park, right here in Houston. Since 2023, the Chevron Championship has been held in the Woodlands at Carlton Woods Country Club, with this year’s edition being moved inside the loop. A great turnout is expected, and hopefully Houston’s weather will remain *pleasant.*
Memorial Park Golf Course is only a couple weeks removed from hosting the Texas Children’s Houston Open, and we all saw how strong of a test that was for the men, and I expect no different for this Major Championship. Since its renovation a few years ago, Memorial went from a tree-lined, parkland style course that almost made you feel like you were on the eastern seaboard or in California, to a more links feel. The renovation saw hundreds of trees removed and firm, undulating greens added. Just a few weeks ago, we saw Karl Villips putt a ball off the green, taking himself out of contention.
With an obviously strong field, it will be really interesting to see if Nelly Korda can find another Chevron Championship victory, or if another star will claim the title. But the real question remains, how will the winner do the famous pond jump dating back to the championship’s Cali days? Will they have to walk to 17? The tradition must go on!
See y’all on the course!
