Rory McIlroy did it again. After 17 years of disappointment at the Masters, Rory finally got his Green Jacket in 2025, and with that pressure gone, he came right back and got his second yesterday in Augusta. McIlroy led wire-to-wire, which is rare in and of itself, but with this win, he became just the 4th player to win back to back Masters titles, and the first since Tiger in 2001 and 2002.
After holding a 6 shot lead thru 36 holes, it looked like Rory was going to run away with this one. However, on Saturday, Rory stumbled, while Cameron Young charged up the leaderboard and finished the day in a tie for first with Rory, the 5 time major champion. After another blunder early- making double on 4- it looked like Rory might relive his early-career nightmares at Augusta. But instead, he settled into the round, and came from 3 shots down to secure his victory.
With McIlroy taking the first of 4 majors this year, Shinnecock Hills will be a major test for this year’s US Open. A tough, often windy ocean-side course on Long Island, I for one, am excited to see if Rory can take home another title.
